Our Values
Values or Virtues are a universally proven set of Principles or Standards of Behaviour. Here at Tirimoana School we teach and support these Values.
At Tirimoana School we talk about C.A.R.E. And we say I care!
This stands for Compassion - Act Responsibly - Respect - Effort
For example: Without effort, even the smartest person may not be successful. Our children learn the value of effort at school. They participate in learning activities that challenge them to think, to work hard. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. One result of not learning to put in enough effort is that children can give up too easily when they do encounter something that they can't master quickly and easily.
Parents can help children learn about effort by encouraging them to persevere. Here are some ways to encourage effort:
- Praise effort rather than success. This is the most important thing you can do. It focuses your child’s attention on the right issues.
- Praise improvement. This emphasises that things are changing and motivates your child to have higher expectations for the future.
- Offer encouragement but don’t help too much. Try and get children to persist past the first difficulties - to take risks and give things a go even if they are not successful straight away.
- Don’t compare what other children do. It’s hard for a child to focus on effort when you raise the profile of their peers or siblings. Focus on how hard your child tries. Your child will automatically take pride in the result if they see that you value their effort.
