Travelwise at Tirimoana

At Tirimoana School we are always working hard to encourage children to walk to school as part of our Enviroschools programme. The number of children who walk or bike to school has steadily increased. There is less congestion on the roads around our school at the beginning and end of a school day. This all adds up to a much safer environment for our children.

There are about 40 Year 6 traffic wardens who operate 3 morning and afternoon crossings around our local school streets. They are on duty in rain or shine.

Every Wednesday children make extra effort to walk or cycle to school. Enviro group members give children who walk a lucky number every Wednesday. These are drawn for prizes at the end of the day.

Every year our Year 5 and 6 children sit a bike licence and receive safety training from Bikewest. They teach safety skills and encourage more children to get healthy when going to school.

Many children use our Walking School Bus to get home from school every afternoon. A teacher helps children to cross the busy Te Atatu Road.
