Celebrating Green Gold

On Thursday 25th March our school celebrated the Green Gold Enviro Award that we successfully gained last year.

Enviroschools and the Auckland Regional Council celebrated with us on Thursday by sending delegates to our assembly. Dianne Glenn, who is the chair of the Envionmental Management Committee for the A.R.C. spoke to us. Chris Carter, our local Te Atatu M.P. also spoke to us.

We encouraged children and staff to walk, bus or bike to school as part of our pledge to sustainability and protection of the planet.

Everyone was excited to watch the raising of the new Enviroschools Green Gold Flag on a new flagpole specially erected for this purpose.

Following the flag raising ceremony our Envirogroup and dignitaries opened a new set of murals / artworks done by our 529 children. These ceramic tiles with an Envro theme were made by scanning pictures drawn by our students. The effect is stunning and adds to the beauty of our secret garden area.

At lunchtime children had the opportunity to make a 'Fair Trade Exchange' in and outside Room 23.  This activity was in the spirit of 'reusability' and 'sustainability'.  We hope the children enjoyed the experience.
